  • 401Gives will kick off Tuesday, Mar. 31 to support local nonprofits and run until 6 p.m. on April 1. Over 300 nonprofits have registered so far as organizers aim to raise more than $5 million, with early bird rates ending Feb. 14 and registration closing on March 20.  What's Up Newp

  • On Feb. 11, 1907, the wooden steamship Larchmont collided with the coal schooner Harry Knowlton near Block Island amid a fierce winter storm, sinking quickly and leaving only 17 survivors.  What's Up Newp

  • Ragged Island Brewing Co. will host its third annual Ragged Island Music Festival on Saturday and Sunday, June 13-14 at its Portsmouth brewery and farm (54 Bristol Ferry Rd).   • The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County hosts its monthly Arts Around the Fire event on Wednesday, Feb. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sardella’s Restaurant on Memorial Blvd West, where guest Ann Amaral, the new library director, will share insights on connecting art with community learning.  The Newport Daily News
  • Eight Rhode Island properties earned Forbes Travel Guide’s 2026 Star Awards on Tuesday, including Aurelia at Castle Hill Inn – one of three new U.S. Five-Star restaurants; a Feb. 5 fire closed its restaurants, though Beach Houses and Cottages welcome guests on March 5 ahead of reopening by Memorial Day.  What's Up Newp
