  • Salve Regina University will host a free panel discussion titled America 250 on Tuesday, March 3 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the O’Hare Academic Building on Shepard Avenue to explore America’s founding and include an open Q&A with local experts.  What's Up Newp

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A major snowstorm that began Sunday night dumped 20.4 inches in Exeter Monday, Feb. 23, making it a contender for Providence’s top 10 two-day snowfalls (the 10th was 18 inches) while meteorologists noted the one-day record is 19 inches from 1996.  The Newport Daily News
  • Snow totals reported on Feb. 23 have broken the record from the Blizzard of '78, with Providence recording 33.5 inches and several towns in the region logging over 30 inches, according to the National Weather Service.  The Newport Daily News

  • Bristol resident Dvora Louria, expecting her second son to be induced Thursday at Newport Hospital’s Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center, is staying at the Marriott today — keeping close to the hospital amid a heavy blizzard. The center, recently spared from closure, faces an uncertain future as lawmakers consider new maternal health measures.  The Newport Daily News
  • Heavy wet snow is expected today in Rhode Island, and the American Heart Association advises adults over 45 — especially those with heart risks — to use proper techniques and tools when shoveling.
