- ➤ A major snowstorm that began Sunday night dumped 20.4 inches in Exeter Monday, Feb. 23, making it a contender for Providence’s top 10 two-day snowfalls (the 10th was 18 inches) while meteorologists noted the one-day record is 19 inches from 1996. The Newport Daily News
- ➤ Snow totals reported on Feb. 23 have broken the record from the Blizzard of '78, with Providence recording 33.5 inches and several towns in the region logging over 30 inches, according to the National Weather Service. The Newport Daily News
