COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The MLK Community Center will soon open a satellite food pantry in the North End at 120 Hillside Ave, near Miantonomi Park. It will serve residents on Mondays from 3 to 5 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon, with produce available on Tuesdays.  What's Up Newp

  • Newport hosts its St. Patrick’s Day Parade weekend from Friday through Sunday with museum exhibits and a pre-parade party on Friday, a parade Saturday starting at City Hall and ending at St. Augustine’s Church in the Fifth Ward, and a mass on Sunday—celebrating local Irish heritage.  The Newport Daily News
  • The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians of Newport named Paula Silvia and Sandy Gallagher co-Lady Hibernians of the Year for 2026, honoring their decades of behind-the-scenes service in community projects and volunteer efforts (the duo is well-known for quickly stepping in when needed).  What's Up Newp

  • Forum Lodge will host its annual Gaelic & Garlic Celebration on Wednesday, March 18 at Vasco da Gama Hall, 15 Fenner Ave with corned beef, potatoes, pasta, sausage, desserts and a cash bar; tickets cost $35 per person and proceeds benefit philanthropic efforts in memory of Ralph J. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Newport drivers who hit a pothole must file a claim within 7 days using online forms for state roads or local procedures for up to $300 reimbursement. The process requires documentation, like police reports and repair estimates (requirements vary by town).  The Newport Daily News

  • HealthSource RI reported that enrollment dropped 20% between Dec. 31 and Feb. 1 as premiums more than doubled after federal subsidies ended & Gov. McKee is proposing $9.5 million in his new budget to support low-income enrollees.  The Newport Daily News
