- ➤ Newport Tree Conservancy is accepting applications for its annual Community Tree Program, offering free trees for residents in the Health Equity Zone and trees for $115 for other locals. - ➤ Newport teens can pick out complimentary prom dresses at a try-on and take home event hosted at Newport Elks Lodge #104 on Thursday, Mar. 19 from 2 to 8 p.m. The Runway 401 program is presented by the MLK Community Center with Jennifer Carter Photography. Newport This Week
- ➤ Salve Regina University President Kelli Armstrong met with city staff and residents on March 3 to discuss conceptual plans for renovating Toppa Field at Freebody Park (a historic stadium behind Stop and Shop Plaza) that may include improved locker rooms, restrooms, and a roof over the stands (pending community input). - ➤ On March 6, the Portsmouth Historical Society and State Archives held Founders Day at Portsmouth Town Hall, displaying the 1638 Portsmouth Compact and the rare 1776 Southwick printing of the Declaration of Independence — the only copy left at its original spot, with Secretary of State Gregg Amore and Newport Artillery present. - ➤ Newport Mansions’ new music video series Sessions features local roots-folk duo Laden Valley live at The Elms, with their video now on YouTube—more sessions will be scheduled through 2026. The duo previously played the Newport Folk Festival and sold-out Jane Pickens Theater. What's Up Newp

- ➤ Newport artist Mary Chatowski Jameson gathers seaweed from Third Beach to create bold pressed seaweed collages and plans a local gallery exhibition plus a fully booked workshop. - ➤ Newport Festivals Foundation donated $20,000 worth of instruments and supplies to Rogers High School in January — boosting its music program as the school prepared to replace its arts center. Newport This Week
- ➤ At a March 4 Town Hall meeting, local officials discussed school regionalization and debated issues like governance and enrollment (referring to a 1973 proposal by former superintendent Gaudet). No decision was made as they said more facts are needed to guide next steps. Newport This Week
