  • Duke Hilario, the beloved NBC 10 Sunrise pooch, became a certified therapy dog yesterday after a year of training with his owner Mario Hilario and visited a local senior center.  WJAR NBC 10
  • MLK Community Center will open a satellite food pantry this spring at 120 Hillside Ave near Miantonomi Park to expand hunger relief and offer its Produce to the People Program (Monday 3–5 p.m., Tuesday 9 a.m.–noon, Friday 9 a.m.–noon) for North End residents.  The Newport Daily News
  • NBC 10 reported on upcoming changes in Rhode Island's THC drink rules and a possible hike in docking fees that may affect Newport cruise ships.   • Airbnb is offering up to $750 to new hosts as part of a $250,000 investment in Rhode Island to boost housing for the World Cup, where many hosts are expected to earn thousands. The move comes as local booking inquiries surge with an 80% increase.  WJAR NBC 10

  • Dr Sean O’Callaghan from Salve Regina will present a lecture on Ireland’s Blasket Islands legacy on Monday, Mar. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Wyndham Newport Hotel (and via Zoom) as the final talk in the Museum of Newport Irish History’s 24th Annual Lecture Series.  What's Up Newp
  • The Preservation Society of Newport County announced it is reviewing its historical collection and will deaccession objects that no longer support its educational mission. Staff will study fine art, decorative art, archives and material culture at sites like The Elms and may transfer or auction items to benefit Collections Fund.  WJAR NBC 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials reported that 55 people received emergency care for suspected overdoses from Mar. 10 to Mar. 16 — surpassing the state's threshold for the first time since 2023. Fentanyl was found in stimulants and counterfeit pills, and officials urged residents to carry naloxone and use available health resources.  What's Up Newp

  • Olivia Culpo—Rhode Island's first Miss Universe—is a model, actress and food influencer who highlights local pride through family-run restaurants and heritage.
