  • Newport County is welcoming spring this weekend with several events as warmer weather arrives. Community members can attend an art presentation at Four Corners Gallery on Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., a free concert at Ochre Court on Sunday at 3 p.m., a performance of Once on This Island by Jamestown Community Theatre starting today at 7 p.m. with additional matinees, and a 10K run and walk on Sunday from Second Beach in Middletown—registration is $60 with part of the fee benefiting Norman Bird Sanctuary.  The Newport Daily News

  • Local restaurants across Rhode Island have seen changes as The Tavern on Main in South Kingstown, Coastal Cabin in Narragansett, and Res American Bistro in Providence closed recently—while Pizza Mamma in Cranston and Shah’s Halal Food in Providence have opened and Remy’s Loose at Chanler in Newport will open for dinner service tonight.  The Newport Daily News

  • Rhode Island Treasurer James Diossa proposed a Baby Bond program that would deposit $3,000 into an interest-earning trust for each child born to a Rhode Island Works family using unclaimed property funds — not taxpayer dollars. The proposal, which aims to close the racial wealth gap by allowing beneficiaries to access the funds at age 18 for education or business ventures, received support from several advocacy organizations.  The Newport Daily News
