CRIME NEWS

  • Newport police arrested 25 year old Kolby McCoy and 21 year old Jacques Jeanty on Thursday after a search warrant for crack cocaine distribution led them to a 7-11 on Memorial Boulevard where McCoy attempted to flee, crashed his vehicle, and customers became trapped inside the store.  WJAR NBC 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Singer-songwriter Marc Cohn will perform in Newport on March 28 at the Jane Pickens Film and Event Center—he was shot in 2005 and announced his battle with Parkinson’s in 2020. His band, including noted guitarist Kevin Barry, will join him for a set that shows his steadfast commitment to his music.  What's Up Newp
  • Secret Mall Apartment, a documentary about eight local artists who built a hidden 750 square feet apartment inside the Providence Place mall parking garage that led to their ban, is playing this week at Showcase Cinemas in Providence where a special lobby photo op is on offer—created by one of the artists. It is showing at the Jane Pickens Theater Film and Event Center in Newport with screenings that began on March 21 and will run daily until March 23 and again from March 26 until March 30.  The Newport Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Newport Pell Bridge — which links Newport and Jamestown — is one of 68 bridges the National Transportation Safety Board recommended for a safety review due to a possible vessel collision. Officials at the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority said they are gathering information and planning measures after the Key Bridge collapse on March 26th raised concerns about risks.  The Public's Radio
