  • Newport County has community events this weekend, including barn dancing at Tiverton Four Corners on Saturday from 4–6 p.m. for $15 per dancer, dancing at the Forty Steps on Sunday at 3 p.m. to close Newport Irish Heritage Month, Art Newport 2025 at Newport Harbor Island Resort on both days, and a free family concert by the Everybody Chorus of Jamestown on Sunday at 3 p.m.—all offering local residents a chance to enjoy music, dance and art.  The Newport Daily News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Newport police responded early Wednesday morning at Ocean Drive and Hazard Road after a Toyota Corolla hit a tree at about 12:43 a.m.—rescuers freed a trapped 29-year-old woman now in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital and treated a 39-year-old man with upper body injuries who is in stable condition.  ABC6
  • A 29-year-old Fall River woman was critically injured in a car crash on Ocean Drive in Newport on March 26 at 12:43 a.m.—officers found her 2001 white Toyota Corolla with major damage against a tree and emergency crews cut her from the wreckage to take her to Rhode Island Hospital—while a 39-year-old man in the car sustained upper body injuries and is in stable condition.  What's Up Newp

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Friday, March 28 at 9 a.m., the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority will close an eastbound lane on the Newport Pell Bridge for construction until Monday, March 31 at 6 a.m., and beginning Friday at 6 p.m., crews will shift the median barrier to create a one-lane-in-each-direction pattern for the weekend. Motorists are advised to plan for delays and use caution when driving through the work zone.  The Newport Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Experts at URI’s Center for Vector-Borne Disease say tick sightings have increased in southern areas over the last two weeks with more lone star ticks now noted along the coast, which can cause a red meat allergy. Residents are advised to wear treated clothing and perform daily tick checks (for both Lyme disease and red meat allergy risks) and restart pet tick treatments (as recommended) to stay safe during the season.  The Newport Daily News
