  • Secretary of State Gregg M. Amore and the Rhode Island Semiquincentennial Commission announced a new exhibit (Revolution and Rhode Island: Liberty, Struggle, Legacy) at the State House, exploring the state’s role in the American Revolution and open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through August.  What's Up Newp
  • Episode two of The Real Housewives of RI featured dramatic exchanges as cast members shared controversial remarks on cheating rumors at Newport Vineyards yesterday (April 6). The episode highlighted local gossip and unexpected personal mishaps.  The Newport Daily News

  • The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County is accepting applications for the Tinney Family Arts Scholarship Award, a $2,000 prize for high school seniors showing artistic talent. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four students (ages 16-17) and one teacher from Newport’s sister city Imperia, Italy will arrive Tuesday, April 21, to take part in events at Edward King House. Local host families are needed to provide comfortable accommodations and occasional rides until Tuesday, April 28.  Newport This Week
  • Four Salve Regina University students received fellowships from the Rhode Island Foundation to study languages abroad, with awards from $1,000 to $20,000 to cover tuition, fees, travel, and housing. Adison Caufield will study in Sevilla in fall 2026 while others continue studies in Spain and Lisbon in spring 2027.  What's Up Newp

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Middletown council revised the agreement for Middletown Commons Town Center on West Main Road. The plan calls for a 144-room hotel and a public park of at least 3,000 sqft while keeping Pottsy Field in its current location.  Newport This Week

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Rhode Island Department of Health launched its Better State of Healthy campaign to share public health experts' stories and promote its services. RIDOH will host an information fair at the State House rotunda on Apr. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m.  What's Up Newp

  • The Vanderbilt, Auberge Collection has completed a renovation of its lower-level Vanderbilt Room at its historic downtown property. The room now features hand-milled wainscoting and reclaimed wood flooring and it can host events from weddings to board meetings.  What's Up Newp
