ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA Northeast reported that gas prices averaged above $4 a gallon in Rhode Island Tuesday, April 7 — global oil tensions drove up costs as crude supplies were disrupted.  WJAR NBC 10
  • Rhode Island is considering proposals that would raise the minimum wage for grocery store and fast food workers to 20 or 24 dollars per hour in 2027. The current rate of 16 dollars per hour is set to increase to 17 dollars per hour next year.  The Newport Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Dan McKee and Secretary of Housing Deborah Goddard announced over $8 million in bond-funded awards on Tuesday to boost housing production under the state’s Housing 2030 plan. The funds will support eight projects that plan to build 665 units, including 238 affordable homes, across Rhode Island.  What's Up Newp

  • Rhode Island fans preparing for the first World Cup match at Gillette Stadium will face extra travel as the MBTA runs express trains only from South Station in Boston, with $80 tickets and no direct service from Providence.
