- ➤ The Rhode Island House Committee on Corporations will soon hear a controversial bill to regulate kratom—an Indonesian plant some say can treat anxiety and opioid addiction—while a Senate committee is set to review a bill that would bar checking a patient’s immigration status. No vote is scheduled on either measure as lawmakers consider the proposals after a similar bill was vetoed last year. ABC6
- ➤ Rhode Island residents must upgrade to a Real ID if they plan to fly soon—only 58% of licenses were compliant as of April 1. Travelers should book an in-person appointment at a DMV office or AAA branch with the required documents, as new IDs will be mailed in two weeks and the rule takes effect May 7. - ➤ U.S. Navy Vice Adm. Shoshana Chatfield was fired over the weekend.
