- ➤ Experts from Colorado State University forecast an active Atlantic hurricane season with up to 17 storms possibly forming and nine of these potentially becoming hurricanes—Rhode Island faces a 25% chance of a tropical storm and a 9% chance of a hurricane; the forecast was released in early April with warm Atlantic waters and low odds for El Niño boosting storm activity.
