  • Ben & Jerry’s is offering free ice cream today at its Thames Street location in Newport from noon to 8 p.m. Members of the Kiwanis Club of Newport will serve scoops & share details about their youth work in the community.  What's Up Newp
  • Newport Little League will host its annual fundraiser at O’Brien’s Pub on Thursday, May 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets cost $20 and include a drink and light appetizers, and the event will feature a raffle and silent auction to support youth baseball programs and field upkeep.  What's Up Newp

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Newport Restoration Foundation is accepting nominations for the 2026 Doris Duke Historic Preservation Awards until Friday, May 1, marking its 20th year and recognizing projects that improve local historic character.   • The Newport Art Museum unveiled the design for a new statue of abolitionist and entrepreneur George T. Downing at its Oyster Fest fundraiser over the weekend. The larger-than-life piece will be the city’s first person of color monument.  WJAR NBC 10
  • Accidental Sisters, a women’s world music a cappella ensemble based in Jamestown, will make its Newport debut on Sunday, May 10 at Channing Memorial Church (135 Pelham St) at 4 p.m. for a free event titled 'About Time' that runs until 5:30 p.m. and benefits Sojourner House.  What's Up Newp
  • Salve Regina University and the International Tennis Hall of Fame completed $710,000 improvements to the historic Casino Theatre, installing new surround sound, LED stage lighting, and wireless microphones + updating safety features, all finished this past winter on Newport’s Casino campus.  What's Up Newp
