- ➤ Newport City Council will vote today on a resolution to create a capital project for climate resiliency that will collect and distribute grants for repairs and mitigation work—this project aims to cover repairs to damaged sites like Elm Street Pier from winter storms in December 2023 and January 2024 and will use funds from federal, state, municipal, and private sources including FEMA. The measure is designed to ensure future improvements and faster recovery from natural disasters. The Newport Daily News
- ➤ The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority responded to a letter from the NTSB by confirming that it already assessed the Pell Bridge’s risk of a vessel strike and hired Modjeski and Masters to calculate its vulnerability—officials noted that local vessels are smaller than the container ship that hit the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The agency met with local partners after that collapse and will soon report its findings to the NTSB. The Newport Daily News
