  • Newport Hospital’s Frederick Henry Prince Memorial Fund awarded $188,500 to 31 Aquidneck Island youth programs to support initiatives for physical activity, education & healthy choices. The grants, ranging from $1,200 to $13,000, include six first-time recipients and mark a $38,500 increase over 2024.  What's Up Newp
  • The Newport Rotary Club will host its 34th annual charity polo match on May 31 at 5 p.m. at the Newport Polo Club grounds with gates opening at 3 p.m. for food trucks and a cash bar — tickets cost $15 and children under 15 enter free with an adult — if weather is bad, the event will move to June 1 to support community projects.  What's Up Newp
  • Newport residents will have free paddling workshops offered by the Newport Harbormaster's office and the American Canoe and Kayak Association this May at Newport Yacht Club, 110 Long Wharf. The sessions, scheduled for May 18 from 10 a.m. to noon and May 19 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will teach safe kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding skills with key tips on gear, maintenance, and state rules.  What's Up Newp
  • Local events have been scheduled from Monday, April 28 through Sunday, May 4 in Newport County—some events occurred yesterday while others will take place later this week.   • The Newport Police Department welcomed Bo, a chocolate Labrador Retriever donated by Dame Dogs Labradors from Pascoag, as he begins training as a Therapy/Comfort K9 with Community Police Officer Nick St. Lawrence. Local trainer Jess Gaes is giving his time—Bo will help officers connect with residents at community events and school visits while he also trains to detect explosives once certified—adding a new tool to the department's community policing efforts.  Newport This Week

  • Conexion Latina Newport hosted its first statewide Mujeres Latinas Poderosas event at Rough Point on April 10—bringing together Latina leaders from across the state.
