  • Tomorrow, May 2nd, Newport will mark Bike Month with a free breakfast, fun giveaways, and the launch of the DRIVE LESS RI APP scheduled to begin at (7:30 a.m.) at the Park and Ride. At (9:00 a.m.), Bike Newport will lead the first group ride on the new shared-use path recently named the Aquidneck Island Greenway, with RIDOT submitting the name to the US Department of Transportation for approval.  What's Up Newp

CRIME NEWS

  • Four individuals were arrested in Newport after police responded to a domestic violence call at Festival Field Housing Development on 90 Girard Avenue—28-year-old Angel Cruz Martinez and three others allegedly attacked officers, causing minor injuries to two, and they will be arraigned today at Newport District Court.  WJAR NBC 10
  • Newport police arrested four people Tuesday night after a domestic violence call at Festival Field Housing Development—Angel Cruz Martinez, a suspect wanted on multiple charges, resisted arrest by punching officers while bystanders also attacked them and two officers were treated at Newport Hospital for minor injuries as all suspects were arraigned and the investigation continues with more arrests expected.  ABC6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rogers High School is on track with keys to be handed over on June 6 as tours end today and equipment moves continue; teachers are packing classrooms and movers are scheduled for June 20 through July 3. A grand opening is planned for August 22 at 10 a.m.—the project stays on budget despite a gap and discussions over layoffs and regionalization remain ongoing.  What's Up Newp

  • Rep. Carson introduced a bill on April 25 that would create a flood audit program to help local homeowners and businesses check their properties for flood risks. The program—funded by a $25 insurance surcharge—will build up funding starting January 1, 2026 and begin audits on January 1, 2028.  What's Up Newp
