  • Aurelia at Castle Hill will reopen May 22 with new chef de cuisine Quentin Diez & a Forbes Five-Star designation following repairs after the Feb. 5 fire. Dinner is served nightly from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with reservations required.  What's Up Newp
  • Rhode Island Commerce Corporation will open a satellite office at Innovate Newport on Monday, May 11 at 10 a.m. at the front entrance (513 Broadway) with a press conference and ribbon cutting featuring remarks by local leaders.  What's Up Newp

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Newport Classical Music Festival will host 30 concerts across 11 local venues from July 2 to 19, featuring an opening chamber concert at The Breakers, an opera night with renowned artists and a free Fourth of July concert at King Park.  What's Up Newp

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Schools including Brown University, Barrington Public Schools, and Providence Public Schools were affected by a cyberattack on Canvas that disrupted access to exam materials on Thursday night and Friday morning, exposing names, email addresses, and student IDs while financial data remained secure; users are advised to change their passwords.  WJAR NBC 10
  • Newport School Committee Chair James Dring explained the board is hiring an interim superintendent because the current leader retires next month and uncertainty over regionalization has affected recruiting plans. Interviews for top candidates will be held while councils decide on regionalization + ensuring leadership continuity for Newport Public Schools.  What's Up Newp

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island revenue collections exceeded projections by $233 million as of May 8, 2026, giving the state budget more funds amid recession concerns. Senate President Valarie Lawson and House Speaker Christopher Blazejewski said the impressive numbers provide additional leeway for upcoming fiscal decisions.  The Newport Daily News

  • Adventureland Family Fun Park, Rhode Island's only amusement park, is open today in Narragansett from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will expand to daily hours on May 23 to offer rides (carousel, bumper boats, mini golf, go karts).  The Newport Daily News
