- ➤ Congregation Shearith Israel filed a lawsuit on May 1 in Newport County Superior Court, accusing Congregation Jeshuat Israel of misusing trust funds and removing Torah scrolls from the historic Touro Synagogue — a dispute that has stretched on since 2012 and followed an April eviction order — while the challenged congregation maintains it properly maintained the property. - ➤ Newport's Broadway Street Fair will return on October 11—spanning six blocks from Equality Park to Washington Square with People’s Credit Union as the main sponsor. Organizers are now seeking vendors, volunteers and artists for the event’s eighth year. What's Up Newp

- ➤ Newport Live and Norman Bird Sanctuary are teaming up for the fifth annual Summer Series at the Norman Bird Sanctuary in Middletown, where concerts will take place when Laura Cantrell will open the series on June 20, followed by Jeffrey Foucault on July 18 and Leslie Mendelson on Aug. 29. - ➤ Today, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation is installing a monitoring system on the Washington Bridge and will close up to two lanes on I-195 east from Exit 1A to Exit 1 B-C overnight from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. from today through May 15 and from May 25 through May 29 — additional overnight closures affect I-195 west from the Potter Street overpass to the Gano Street on-ramp from May 15 through May 25, on I-195 west from Broadway to the Gano Street on-ramp on May 14, 15 and 20, and on I-195 east from the India Street off-ramp to the Warren Avenue off-ramp on May 22 while weekday work from May 12 to May 16 will keep all lanes open.
