  • The Newport Restoration Foundation will open a new Doris Duke Fashion Gallery at Rough Point Museum on June 12—dedicated to showcasing Duke’s fashion collection and her support for arts, design, and preservation.   • Charles L. Roberts, executive director of Rhode Island Slave History Medallions, announced Newport will offer its second annual Black History Walking Tours starting Memorial Day weekend and a free Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21 in Washington Square.   • Two Newport museums, the Newport Restoration Foundation + Sailing Museum and National Sailing Hall of Fame, are offering free summer admission for active-duty military members and up to five family members through the Blue Star Museums program that runs from today to Sept. 1.   • Governor Dan McKee said that an investigation found a cyberattack on the RIBridges system affected data from over 644,000 Rhode Islanders—adding 108,000 unexpected cases as files were improperly shared. Attorney General Peter Neronha is reportedly considering a lawsuit against Deloitte while the state plans to move to a new benefits system.  ABC6
  • In 2024, Rhode Island built only 922 new homes, the slowest increase in the continental states—Census numbers showed just a 0.2% rise. The House passed new bills to ease local building rules—officials say these changes aim to speed up future construction.  The Newport Daily News
  • On May 15, the Rhode Island Senate approved a bill sponsored by Senator DiPalma to lower prescription drug prices by capping costs at the levels negotiated by Medicare — the measure aims to help local residents struggling with high medication expenses.
