  • Yesterday, the Champlin Foundation awarded over $1.25 million to 10 county nonprofits, including $664,720 in Newport projects like The Breakers Terrace Restoration and facility upgrades at community centers. The next grant cycle opens June 1 and closes July 1 with final decisions expected in November.  What's Up Newp

  • Portsmouth resident J.J. Silvia III was named a new BankNewport corporator at OceanPoint Financial Partners’ annual meeting on April 20 in Portsmouth. He will serve as a community ambassador to link the bank with local customers.  What's Up Newp

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Newport County residential market fired up this spring with 24 homes sold last week in Jamestown, Newport, Portsmouth, Middletown, Tiverton and Little Compton. Buyer activity is expected to heat up as Memorial Day weekend nears, with more open houses and seasonal visitors entering the market.  What's Up Newp

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tuesday, May 19 saw high schools playing baseball with Cranston West winning 12-10 on Dylan Milano's walk-off hit and North Kingstown upsetting East Providence, while several teams clinched playoff seedings for Friday contests.   • The fourth annual Rhody Regatta is set for Saturday, May 30, and has strong registration and fundraising for Meals on Wheels. The 18-mile race circles Conanicut Island and features entries from Newport and Jamestown teams, with an awards ceremony scheduled May 31 at Brick Pizza Co.'s Stone Room in Bristol.  What's Up Newp
