  • Free hop-on-hop-off trolley service returned to Newport for the 2025 season as RIPTA Route 67 runs from May 23 through Oct. 31 and stops at Bellevue Avenue, Memorial Boulevard, and key sites, while Route 68 connects CCRI Newport, Middletown DHS, and First Beach + discounted parking is offered at the Newport Transportation Center.  The Newport Daily News

  • Martha Parker, founder and owner of Team One Newport, celebrated 40 years of business as she recalled starting the company when she struggled to find gear for women sailors.   • Newport’s Black History Walking Tours return today with 75-minute guided tours by Rhode Island Slave History Medallions on weekends until October 26; participants will explore Historic Hill and learn from eight granite markers featuring QR codes. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Audubon Society of RI started a yard-sign program on World Turtle Day—May 23—to slow cars for native turtles during their nesting season after 44 were hit in 2024. Residents are advised to help by safely guiding turtles across roads and leaving nests undisturbed amid rising development.  ABC6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rhode Island house passed a bill on Thursday to start a purple alert system that will help find missing adults with severe disabilities — the measure, prompted by an incident where an autistic woman went missing in Cranston last March, now heads to the senate.  ABC6

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local fishermen in Rhode Island are finding success catching big striped bass and summer flounder by using live bait and methods suited to fast moving water along rivers, jetties, and coastal parks like India Point and Colt State. The Block Island Inshore Fishing Tournament is set to run July 26—July 27 and now covers nine species as it expands its fishing area.  The Newport Daily News
