  • Jack Masse, a local high school senior, launched the inaugural Rhode Rally—a charity car rally for Hasbro Children’s Hospital that ran yesterday from Newport to Brookline, with breakfast and lunch and museum tours, raising funds to support the hospital.  What's Up Newp

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historian Tim Gray explained that WWII-era U-boat U-853, sunk near Block Island in the Battle of Point Judith on May 5, 1945, remains in local waters and has led to theories that U-boats may have entered Narragansett Bay. Gray is now making a film about codebreakers.  The Newport Daily News
  • Charter Books will host New York Times bestselling author Annabel Monaghan for a summer cocktail event at OceanCliff on Monday, June 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets cost $75 and include a signed copy of her new novel Dolly All the Time, a complimentary drink and hors d'oeuvres.  What's Up Newp
