- ➤ Since 1976, state law has banned hold-open clips on gas pumps to prevent fire hazards, and a 2015 amendment allowed vapor recovery nozzles before they were phased out. Officials say if New York ends its ban, Rhode Island will be the only state to keep the restriction. The Newport Daily News
