  • MLK Center is raffling two pairs of tickets for Jay Leno’s sold-out shows scheduled at Newport Craft Brewery & Distillery from July 9 to 12—locals can drop off nonperishable food at its loading dock on 20 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd. from June 13 to July 3. Each donation made during drop-off hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. counts as one raffle entry and entrants must be 18 or older—winners will be notified via phone or email.  What's Up Newp

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Kelly Nevitt, 15, died today when the porch collapsed at the Portuguese American Citizens Club in Portsmouth—community members gathered Friday night at Saint Barnabas Church to remember him as police reported three others injured, one with only minor injuries.  WJAR NBC 10

  • On June 12, Rogers High School held its graduation ceremony at Toppa Field where the Class of 2025 earned their diplomas — school officials including Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain and Mayor Charlie Holder spoke as family and friends cheered.  The Newport Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rhode Island Blood Center is urgently calling for donors with type O— and B blood as supplies hold only a two-day level needed for summer emergencies; the center warns that hospitals will see more trauma cases as the season progresses and asks community groups to host drives before World Blood Donor Day today.   • Real estate agents warn that a proposed 'Taylor Swift tax' may affect family cottages and luxury vacation homes by taxing non-owner-occupied properties valued above $1 million—only if they are not lived in for at least 183 days a year.
