- ➤ A house on Block Island exploded Saturday evening on West Beach Road — five people were inside when first responders evacuated them in 45 minutes, and two were flown by Coast Guard helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital with one suffering a broken femur and another second-degree burns, both expected to survive. - ➤ Favorable weather led to a strong turnout at the 67th annual Newport Motor Car Festival in Portsmouth — held on the grounds of Portsmouth Abbey School where vintage cars from before World War I and modern special-interest vehicles were featured.
