- ➤ Rhode Island lawmakers have amended the Bottle Bill to create a statewide recycling plan that will aim to reduce littering and improve recycling. A council of House and Senate members will complete a needs assessment on approach, cost, and successful practices before filing a report by December 2026 — critics urge the plan to consider taxpayer costs. - ➤ House Speaker Shekarchi and Senate President Lawson announced a bill to pause the 10 cent tax on glass bottles and start a needs assessment for a new bottle redemption plan — the measure was considered by the House environment and natural resources committee on Wednesday.
