  • Newport’s King Park Gazebo will host five free outdoor concerts this summer — organized by the New England Music Organization. Blues harmonica star James Montgomery will open the series on July 11 from 5-7 p.m., with additional shows on July 18, Aug. 8, Aug. 15 and Aug. 30.  What's Up Newp

  • A letter to the editor explains that even though the City Council approved plans such as the Transportation Master Plan and the G&CS ordinance, projects like the recent Wellington Avenue paving still lack bike accommodations—Bike Newport’s Board of Directors calls for the FY2026 budget to fund proper bicycle infrastructure and enforce safety policies.  What's Up Newp
  • Legislators passed several major bills during the session and now they are headed to the governor’s desk for final approval—some have already been signed. The bills include a phased-in minimum wage increase starting January 1, new rules for nonprofit transparency on state funds, consumer safeguards for virtual currency kiosks, outdoor dining for a restaurant affected by fire, a fee waiver for veterans’ inspections, a license for harvesting invasive green crabs, and a revived housing and conservation board.  The Newport Daily News
  • RIPTA introduced summer service changes today—bringing more frequent Route 67 buses, free rides on key routes until October 31 and enhanced weekend service between the Park & Ride lot and Transportation Center to ease travel in Newport and Aquidneck Island.  What's Up Newp
  • Governor McKee headed to Fox Point on Friday morning to mark the start of Newport ferry season—he was joined by transportation officials and Discover Newport representatives as the ferry service began with one-way tickets at $12 and round-trip tickets at $24. The ferry stopped at Bristol before docking in Newport, and the first ferry left at 9:30 a.m.  ABC6
  • Today, Rhode Island lawmakers will hold a floor vote at 2 p.m. on an assault weapons ban bill that critics say fails to protect public safety—Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg said the bill is too weak because it does not ban the possession of assault weapons.  ABC6
  • Governor McKee, RIDOT Director Peter Alviti, Jr., and local officials began the 10th season of the Providence-Newport Ferry on June 20 — the service offers four daily roundtrips between Providence and Newport with weekend stops in Bristol. The ferry season runs through Columbus Day weekend and will include special trips for the Fourth of July Parade.  What's Up Newp
