Newport Airport held its 8th annual Airport Day on Sunday, June 28.

The event featured airplane displays, food, ice cream, specialty vehicles, and five-minute helicopter rides for families at the airport.

On June 28, 1969, Newport’s Claiborne Pell Bridge opened with a 1,601-ft main span that makes it New England’s longest suspension bridge (it connects Newport and Jamestown across Narragansett Bay and appears on the state quarter).
