🚨 Crime
Newport Police arrested two Massachusetts residents — Di J.
DiPinto and Beverly DiPinto — after an investigation that began on May 26 led to the seizure of more than $100,000 in stolen merchandise from a Thames Street store, with one suspect held pending arraignment and the other released on $10,000 bail.
🎭 Culture
On July 11th, 1780, General Rochambeau landed in Newport with about 5,000 French soldiers to support the American Revolution.
Although locals first met the arrival with closed doors, the French soon set up camp—agreeing to pay for land and supplies with silver and gold coins.
The 28th Annual IYRS Summer Gala will feature The Legendary Wailers featuring Junior Marvin tomorrow night at IYRS School of Technology & Trades on Thames Street + cocktails begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner, live auctions and a 9:30 p.m. headlining performance.
The fundraiser supports the school that offers hands-on training in marine trades and modern manufacturing for many financially assisted students.

Newport Polo drew its largest crowd in 34 years during the USA vs. Italy match on July 5—marking a record turnout as fans gathered over the Independence Day weekend.
