- ➤ Newport City Council passed a resolution on Tuesday night urging Brown Health to keep the Noreen Stonor Drexel Birthing Center open at Newport Hospital after community members shared personal stories about its value. The resolution, backed by councilors including Ellen Pinnock and Xay Khamsyvoravong, will be sent to local health leaders plus state and federal officials as Brown Health works through its budget process with a decision expected by the end of September. - ➤ Newport began its $3 million roadway improvement project on 18 streets made possible by the 2024 GO Bond, with contractor Pawtucket Hot Mix Asphalt starting work on Prescott Hall Road — installing new pavement, curbing and sidewalks.
