  • Newport County hosts several outdoor events this weekend with a walking tour of Clarke Street and Historic Hill at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday that costs $20 or $15 for Newport residents, a Newport Dance Festival at The Great Friends Meeting House with free lessons starting at 6:30 p.m., and a Beer Run 5K at noon that ends with a local craft brew fest—while a Food Trucks event in Portsmouth offers live music from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with no tickets needed.  The Newport Daily News

  • Lawson’s Finest Liquids released Cosmic Shift IPA—a 6.2% ABV brew sold in Rhode Island for the first time—on Monday as part of its 'Good Brew for a Cause' initiative, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.   • Newport Art Museum held free painting events outdoors at Blue Garden and Trinity Church as part of its Wet Paint fundraiser—another event will take place at Sachuest Point on July 23 if the weather holds.   • The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Newport County held its Raise Up the Arts event on June 25 at the Atlantic Pavilion at the Wyndham Newport Hotel in Middletown where local artists were honored with awards and a silent auction raised funds for future programs.   • This summer, food events are set statewide as Farm Fresh RI hosts its Local Food Fest in Newport on Aug 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Castle Hill Inn’s Chalet Patio — the event features tastings from local farms and chefs while Celeste in Narragansett begins Friday lunch service, Narragansett Beer marks Shark Week with retro cans through July 20, and fundraisers plus church festivals are planned later in the month.  The Newport Daily News

  • Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha sued FEMA and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on July 16 in Boston federal court with 19 other states to stop the cancellation of the BRIC program that funds disaster prevention and infrastructure upgrades — the lawsuit alleges that ending the program violates Congress’ funding decision and increases risks after severe flooding in Texas killed over 130 people.  The Newport Daily News
