BUSINESS NEWS

  • Discover Newport announced the return of the non-stop bus service in partnership with DATTCO for a second season — running from Boston South Station Terminal to the Newport Marriott side from Friday to Monday until September 30 — at a $30 fare with 52-passenger capacity. The service first launched in summer 2024 and saw a 30% increase in ridership.  Newport This Week

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Newport Folk Festival announced its food and beverage vendors to serve options from pizza and gelato to lobster rolls and Jamaican hand-pies (with drinks including lemonade, kombucha, and iced tea) during the three-day event.  The Newport Daily News
  • Art lovers will browse unique antiques and fine art at The Newport Show at St. George’s School Ice Rink in Middletown from July 25—July 27, with the event opening with a Gala Preview Party on July 25 at 6 p.m. The show benefits the Newport Historical Society and the Boys and Girls Clubs while adding six new dealers and a fresh exhibition called The Summer of '25.  What's Up Newp

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island’s part‐time lawmakers received a 2.9% pay raise on July 1 that increased their salaries by $574.70 from $19,817.27 to $20,391.97 + the House speaker and Senate president now earn $40,783.94 while two legislators declined the raise in line with state law.  The Newport Daily News
  • Naval Station Newport will host Salute to Navy 250 on August 23 to celebrate the Navy's 250th anniversary—this event will offer live music, fireworks and children’s activities. Guests must show a government-issued photo ID and follow safety rules including using alternate access after the main gate closes to vehicle traffic at 3:30 p.m.  The Newport Daily News
  • Councilor Xay Khamsyvoravong spoke with Bill Bartholomew live on WPRO on July 15 and expressed concern about the proposed closure of the birthing center at Newport Hospital, which could impact local families.  Newport This Week
