  • FBI Boston Division warned that scammers are calling New Englanders pretending to be law officials—using harsh language to demand payment. Residents are advised to hang up and report these calls since federal agencies never seek money—Rhode Island victims lost nearly $148,000.  The Newport Daily News

CULTURE NEWS

  • United Theatre in Westerly partners with Nashville’s Bluebird Cafe—famed for launching Taylor Swift’s career—to host quarterly in-the-round concerts starting Nov. 8 that feature emerging country singer-songwriters and music education programs linked with the Country Music Hall of Fame. The series will run through 2026, offering local audiences a unique look at the songwriting process.  The Newport Daily News
  • On July 19th, hundreds gathered at IYRS Restoration Hall in Newport for newportFILM’s 15th Anniversary Summer Benefit that raised over $375,000 to support its year-round documentary programming and educational initiatives. Local sponsors including the Stratus Foundation—FlyAdvanced and BankNewport helped secure the funds, and the Outdoors series will host weekly screenings through August 28th.  Newport This Week
