- ➤ Farm Fresh RI is a nonprofit that makes fresh food more available in the community; it served 250,000 people and supported 252 local farmers while nearly $3 million in federal funding was lost, and it is raising funds and will host Local Food Fest at Castle Hill Inn in Newport & seek community help to keep food accessible. - ➤ RIPTA held a public meeting on July 29 to discuss a $10 million budget gap that will force it to cut bus routes on Aquidneck Island—eliminating Route 68 and reducing Routes 60, 63, and 64—which many Newport residents say could hurt riders who rely on the service. Additional meetings will be held through Aug 6, and the board will vote on the changes on Aug 7 before driver layoffs and reassignments begin on Aug 18 with the new schedule set for Sept. 13. - ➤ Residents rallied on July 29 at City Hall to support keeping the hospital’s birthing center as Brown Health said it remains in the current budget and will review its future over the next year.
