  • The Newport International Boat Show will return Sept. 11-14 with new educational programming—boater training and technical workshops offered at several downtown waterfront venues. The 54th annual event, presented by BankNewport, will include hands-on classes with limited seating that require advance registration.  What's Up Newp
  • During its three-day run at St. George’s School last weekend, the 18th annual Newport Show raised a record amount for The Newport Historical Society + Boys + Girls Clubs of Newport County. The event, which began in 2007, has now generated $4.75 million through art, antiques and design displays.  What's Up Newp

  • Newport Festivals Foundation announced Tuesday that the Newport Folk Festival will return to Fort Adams State Park from July 24-26, 2026 — and the Newport Jazz Festival will take place from July 31 to Aug. 2, 2026.  What's Up Newp
  • Three acclaimed musicians will perform at The JPT Film and Event Center this fall as part of a concert series presented by Spectacle Live. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and the shows feature Vertical Horizon on Oct 8 at 7:30 p.m.—Leo Kottke on Oct 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Richard Thompson on Nov 15 at 8 p.m.  What's Up Newp

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Dan McKee signed legislation on Monday that will raise Rhode Island’s minimum wage from $15 to $17 for about 50,000 workers. The law will take effect in phases—$16 on January 1 and $17 on January 1, with the increases set for next year and the year after.  What's Up Newp

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health officials warn that a bat found at Beavertail State Park tested positive for rabies after a park worker discovered it near a water hose on the Lighthouse Building on July 30 at 9 a.m.—the bat was euthanized after showing rabies symptoms and officials advise anyone who had direct contact to seek immediate treatment.  What's Up Newp
