  • Bike Newport's annual 10-Spot Ride will take place on Saturday, Aug 23, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as 300 cyclists ride through hidden local spots—featuring private homes, food from 13 restaurants and local musical performances—to support cycling safety programs; riders will receive a starting location email a day before and a QR code for navigating the sites.  What's Up Newp

  • Two tribute bands will perform music from Carole King and James Taylor at JPT Film and Event Center on November 16 at 7 p.m.—Spectacle Live organizes the show featuring Home Again and Steamroller, with tickets on sale Friday at 10 a.m.  What's Up Newp
  • On Friday, Aug. 15, Newport’s historic JPT Film — Event Center will host the Rhode Island premiere of the award-winning film Shattered Ice which highlights mental health awareness in collaboration with local brand NOSOLO. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Newport Historical Society was chosen as the national winner for the 2024 Excellence in Education Program Award by the National Park Service for its Women on the Water program that teaches STEM and maritime history to female students in grades 6-12. The society will be honored at a ceremony in August—two weeks after it received an Award of Excellence from the American Association for State and Local History.  What's Up Newp

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Newport Polo raised over $80,000 at its 24th Annual International Polo Charity Ball on Aug. 1 at Rosecliff Mansion to benefit local conservation groups (Eastern Rhode Island Conservation District, Save The Bay, Roger Williams Park Zoo and Newport Tree Conservancy). The fundraising effort brought their total contributions to nonprofits to more than $2.3 million over 34 years.  What's Up Newp

  • Between August 4 and 8, fourteen residential properties closed in Newport County—MLS data shows a county median sale price of about $760,000 and Newport homes selling for near $937,000 with an average market time of 38—39 days.
