  • Newport is hosting many local events this weekend including a flower hammering workshop on Aug. 16 at the Common Fence Point Community Center, the 47th Fools' Rules Regatta at Town Beach in Jamestown starting at 9 a.m., and a free Greek festival at St. Spyridon Church from Aug. 15 to Aug. 17. Residents can also join Take Me Fishing Day at Sachuest Point on Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the George Washington Letter Reading on Aug. 17 at the Old Colony House.  The Newport Daily News
  • Stephanie O’Hanley was honored as the 2025 Lady Hibernian of the Year at a cocktail reception on July 31 at Hibernian Hall — she was recognized for 25 years of service and leadership with a custom silver bracelet featuring the St. Brigid cross. City Councilor David Carlin declared Aug. 1 as Stephanie O’Hanley Day as members of the LAOH and community gathered to celebrate her contributions.  What's Up Newp
  • Newport Mental Health was honored for its quick help in Portsmouth—after a tragic incident that killed a 15-year-old and injured a 17-year-old while supporting over 250 students and families. Christine Tellefsen joined Residential Properties Ltd., BankNewport gave $50,000 to Jamestown Community Farm for a land deal, Preserve RI honored local groups with the Rhody Awards, and West Place Animal Sanctuary added an electric vehicle for guided tours—boosting access for those with mobility needs.  The Newport Daily News

  • Edesia Nutrition in Rhode Island resumed production of its Plumpy'Nut therapeutic food after the U.S. government placed a new order for 2025 following months of stop-work orders & contract terminations.   • Fort Adams Trust will host its free Music at the Fort concert series on three Wednesday evenings starting Aug. 20 on the North Lawn of the historic fort, with live music from local bands playing from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 20, Aug. 27 and Sept. 3—guests are encouraged to bring picnic supplies and a $25 donation to support fort preservation.  What's Up Newp

  • The Touro Synagogue Foundation will host its 78th annual George Washington Letter Reading on Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. at the Old Colony House in Newport—marking a change from past years at Touro Synagogue. Newport Historical Society’s Rebecca Bertrand will read Washington’s historic letter on religious freedom while RISD’s Crystal Williams will deliver the keynote address, and the event will be livestreamed for virtual attendance.  What's Up Newp

  • Yesterday, the International Tennis Hall of Fame and 11th Hour Racing announced they renewed their sustainability sponsorship for the sixth consecutive year—supporting year-round environmental initiatives.
