- ➤ More than 900 swimmers and volunteers will gather at Scarborough North State Beach in Narragansett on Sept. 6 for the 16th annual Swim Across America event + organizers will offer quarter, half and 1-mile swim options with registration opening at 8 a.m., a welcome ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and water entry beginning at 10:15 a.m. The event was moved from Roger Wheeler State Beach because of boardwalk construction + it aims to raise funds for cancer research, joining an effort that has raised nearly $3 million since 2010. - ➤ Two solo exhibitions will open on Sept. 12 at Jamestown Arts Center, featuring Pittsburgh-based artist DS Kinsel’s 'Bohemian Ossuary' and Providence-based artist Becci Davis’ 'Bloodstone + Home' that examine ancestry and memory until Nov. 8.
