- ➤ A Rhode Island special assistant attorney general Devon Hogan allegedly told Newport Police to turn off their body cameras & refused to leave the Clarke Cooke House on Bannister’s Wharf on Aug. 14, prompting her arrest on a charge of willful trespass and the arrest of another person for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and willful trespass. - ➤ The Newport Art Museum announced Thursday that its summer events raised a record $648,500 to support exhibitions and programming, with over 1,400 people attending across three days. The museum hosted its Summer Art Party on July 11 at the John N.A. Griswold House and held Wet Paint on Aug. 9 — the events raised $428,500 for ongoing projects and an extra $220,000 will support four current exhibitions including one honoring Minnie Cushing Coleman. - ➤ In July, more than two dozen students from Newport and neighboring states attended a Summer Cyber Camp at the Community College where they learned to use portable two-way radios and cyber security skills for emergency communication—led by retired Air Force officer Michael Cullen of the Newport County Radio Club.
