CULTURE NEWS

  • The Narragansett Bay Chorus will perform its 13th annual concert at St. Columba’s Chapel in Middletown on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. in the chapel’s Parish Hall at 55 Vaucluse Ave—three quartets will join the 43-member group as they present popular, traditional, show, and gospel tunes with admission at $20 for adults and $10 for students payable at the door.  What's Up Newp
  • Seven Rhode Island artists on Rose Island will show their work to the public on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.—the artists began a six-night residency on Monday and visitors need to pay only ferry fares since landing fees are waived by the trust.  What's Up Newp
  • The Newport presentation Return to Camelot will show vintage film clips, live organ music and hymns and the first dance from the Kennedy wedding at St. Mary's Church on Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.—doors open 15 minutes early—and guests may tour the historic church including pew 10 after the 30-minute presentation as a free-will offering benefits the Hot Lunch Program.  The Newport Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Department of the Interior stopped construction on Revolution Wind in August—an 80% complete wind farm set to power 350,000 homes—as lawsuits by Ørsted and state attorneys general now challenge the work order. The halted project now risks higher utility bills, job losses for over 1,000 workers, and delays in reaching Rhode Island’s clean energy goals.  The Public's Radio
  • Newport will host the state's third coastal resilience forum at Newport Library, 300 Spring St., scheduled for Sept. 10 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.—the event will be available online and will let residents join interactive discussions led by chief resilience officer Kim Korioth to shape measures for rising seas and extreme weather.  What's Up Newp

  • Rhode Island law enforcement gave a police escort to Skylar yesterday after she rang the bell at Hasbro Children’s Hospital to mark her being cancer free after a two-year battle. The Warren Police Department said her smile and energy were contagious—she has a promising future ahead.  ABC6

SPORTS NEWS

  • Twenty amateur sailing teams from 12 countries compete today for the ninth Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup on Rhode Island Sound, starting at 11 a.m. with up to 12 races scheduled through Saturday—teams will sail in identical IC37 yachts designed by Mark Mills.  What's Up Newp
