  • Cyclists gathered on September 13 at King's Park in Newport for the annual Bike the Beach event that supported autism awareness — nearly $300,000 was raised for local programs aiding those with autism.  WJAR NBC 10

  • Newport International Boat Show announced its 2025 Newport for New Products awards on Friday with an event held Sept. 12 on Newport’s waterfront, naming Hinckley Yachts’ Picnic Boat 39 (Best New Boat Overall and Best New Powerboat Under 45‐feet). The awards honored marine products that debuted after April 1 (selected by industry experts for innovation, customer value, safety and aesthetics) at the show.  What's Up Newp

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Rhode Island launched its first study abroad program in Cabo Verde this summer—honoring late Newport resident Earl N. Smith III—and sent eleven students there to learn about social justice and cross-cultural understanding. The program will run again next summer to continue Smith’s legacy.  What's Up Newp

  • Salve Regina’s men’s and women’s ice hockey teams will rejoin the Conference of New England for the 2026-27 season after playing as independents for the 2025-26 season—President Kelli Armstrong said the move strengthens ties with former league members.  What's Up Newp
