COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Thursday, September 25th, Newport Mental Health will host its 11th annual Rock the Beach Gala at Newport Beach House beginning at 5:30 p.m.—the event is expected to draw around 300 local guests and raise funds for mental health and substance use services. A few tickets remain available for those who want to join this evening of celebration and community support.  What's Up Newp

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Nine Central Film Festival will return Oct. 3-4 at the Jane Pickens Film and Event Center for its seventh year—featuring 10–15 short films each night from local filmmakers. Tickets cost $28.33 per night and the complete lineups will be announced two weeks before the event.  What's Up Newp
  • Norman Bird Sanctuary will host its annual Harvest Fair on Oct. 4-5 with a stronger focus on sustainability brought by lead sponsor 11th Hour Racing—eco-friendly additions include water filling stations, zero-waste demonstrations, and a LivingGallery installation. The fair will also offer live music, hayrides, and traditional autumn activities for families.  What's Up Newp

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge ruled on Monday that construction of the nearly complete offshore wind farm Revolution Wind near Rhode Island could resume after a stop-work order halted work since Aug. 22—stating the government's action was arbitrary due to a lack of solid reasons. Ørsted said the company would restart work as soon as possible while a lawsuit and a national security investigation continue.  The Public's Radio

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Newport County seasonal eateries are closing for the winter and offer a final chance to dine before their scheduled last service dates; Frosty Freez will serve until Sept. 30, Smoke House and Flo’s Clam Shack until Oct. 13, Marina Cafe and Pub until mid-October, and Evelyn’s Drive In closed on Sept. 21 — customers are urged to visit soon.  The Newport Daily News

  • Justin Carcel earned Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Coastal Athletic Association after he recorded two early interceptions and a pass breakup that halted Long Island's drive during URI’s 28-7 win at Meade Stadium—his play helped make the game a sellout homecoming.
