- ➤ A forensic audit shows that decades of neglect led to the sudden closure of Washington Bridge in December as it suffered leaking joints, cracked concrete and corrosion—problems that were noted in inspections for decades and raised questions about whether RIDOT knew of the damage. - ➤ The CDC says the mosquito is the world’s deadliest animal as it causes over 725,000 deaths each year through diseases like malaria - in Rhode Island, residents are at risk as one person was hospitalized with probable West Nile Virus after showing early September symptoms. Residents are urged to remove standing water, use repellents, and wear long sleeves as mosquito activity continues until the end of October. The Newport Daily News
