- ➤ The Newport Historical Society had its highest-ever meeting on Thursday and said it reached more than 24,000 people with 24 programs, 207 tours and 350 research sessions — including a record 2,250 guests at the French in Newport event. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A seven percent sales tax on short-term parking is now in effect for parking lots and garages used for 30 days or less—this tax does not apply to street parking meters. ABC6
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Brown upset URI 28—21 on Oct. 3 by forcing four turnovers at Centreville Bank Stadium, snapping a six-game losing streak. The Bears claimed the Governor's Cup for the first time since 2017. The Newport Daily News
- ➤ Friday night in Rhode Island sports had a playoff feel in an overtime high school football game as Hendricken edged La Salle 21 to 20—setting the tone for other matchups.
