- ➤ Newport City Council passed a resolution on Oct. 8 to form a new advisory commission for Miantonomi Park that better reflects the park’s 1921 original oversight intent. The commission, which includes members from the old group and local organization representatives — including the Newport Tree Conservancy and Audubon Society — will guide park management and future improvements.
