- ➤ More than 50 Newport families with children in kindergarten through second grade gathered at Pell Elementary on Oct. 9 for a community dinner that featured activities—such as filming, crab observations and mask making—by over 20 local organizations and enjoyed pizza, salad and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. RENEWport will host another dinner on Feb. 26 for Pell families with children in third and fourth grades. What's Up Newp
- ➤ On October 9, RENEWport hosted a community dinner at Pell Elementary School for over fifty Newport families with children in kindergarten through second grade — more than twenty local partners led hands-on activities and games during the event, which ended with pizza, salad, and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. RENEWport will host another dinner for Pell families with children in grades three and four on February 26 — an effort to further connect Newport Public Schools with the community. Newport This Week
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, October 13, a fixed-wing Socata TBM 700 crashed on the median of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth at 8:15 a.m.—killing Middletown residents Thomas Perkins, 68, and Agatha Perkins, 66, and injuring a Hyundai Sonata driver who was taken to a hospital. The Newport Daily News

- ➤ Frosty Freez, Middletown’s beloved ice cream shop at 496 East Main Road, has been sold to longtime employee Cameron Bulk who took over operations after a months-long transition; the new owner will prepare the shop over winter—planning to reopen it on April 1 to carry on its nearly 70-year tradition. - ➤ The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston reports show that the economy is slowing down as inflation rises, job growth is slow, and Rhode Island faces nearly one percent higher unemployment with personal incomes growing more slowly than in other New England states. - ➤ The Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce, Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training, CCRI Newport Campus and City of Newport will host the Greater Newport Career Fair at Innovate Newport, 513 Broadway on October 30th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—registration is required due to limited space. - ➤ Rhode Island schools use between 70 and 75 school resource officers, but many districts fall short of the recommendation of one officer per building & smaller towns like Scituate have only one SRO.
