- ➤ Newport County will host a variety of Halloween events this week including trunk or treat gatherings at shops, costume parties at historic sites and family-friendly sessions at parks and police stations. Adults can also enjoy haunted tours, live readings and themed parties from Oct. 25 to Oct. 31 (event details vary by location). The Newport Daily News
- ➤ Heather Abbott, a Boston Marathon bombing survivor from 2013, now runs a foundation that has raised millions to give custom prosthetic legs to amputees—like one that helped a Warwick woman swim—and she continues to empower others to regain their strength. WJAR NBC 10

- ➤ Rhode Island has been in a recession since last December as University of Rhode Island economist Leonard Lardaro showed with his Current Conditions Index—eight of 12 measures were lower than last year’s levels.
