- ➤ Bobby Cowsill, a founding member of the 1960s pop group the Cowsills, will perform at Belmont Chapel at Island Cemetery for two intimate shows — scheduled for 6 p.m. on Dec. 4 and 5 — at 30 Warner Street in Newport. Tickets cost $65 and are available on Island Cemetery's website. What's Up Newp
- ➤ Netflix will debut Guillermo del Toro’s new Frankenstein on November 7. Newport’s Jane Pickens Theater will show James Whale’s classic Frankenstein — an enduring film — on October 30 with Jeff Rapsis providing a live musical score and a post-screening conversation. Newport This Week

- ➤ The R/V Endeavor—the nation’s oldest research vessel—was retired last month from URI’s Narragansett Bay campus after 49 years of studying ocean currents, and scientists say its work on the Gulf Stream will live on. A new vessel called Narragansett Dawn will arrive in 2027 to continue the research as funding concerns persist. The Public's Radio
- ➤ State health and environmental officials warned people to avoid Upper Melville Pond after finding a harmful algae bloom. They advised locals not to swim, fish, boat or kayak there because the bloom can make people and pets sick—health officials said. What's Up Newp

- ➤ Newport Mental Health was named a Regional Access Point by the Rhode Island Executive Office of Housing—joining a new state network that helps people in need of housing and support services. The center offers walk-in visits at 42 Valley Road in Middletown and is available by phone and outreach during regular business hours. What's Up Newp
- ➤ City officials in Newport say the custom lifeguard chairs at Easton's Beach—measuring 15 to 16 feet tall—are the tallest in the country, a claim backed by the late lifeguard captain George Clarke. Officials will stand by this claim until it is disproven, noting that no other community has a record of tower heights. The Newport Daily News
- ➤ On Monday, Middletown activated school speed zone cameras after a speed study recorded 9,088 violations in a five-day period—drivers receive a 30-day warning and will face civil citations starting November 26 if they continue to speed. WJAR NBC 10
- ➤ Newport City Council approved two grant applications to the RI Department of Environmental Management’s Recreation Development Grant Program—one grant may offer up to $125,000 to upgrade Murphy Field and another may provide up to $500,000 for enhancements at the skatepark on John Chafee Boulevard.
