- ➤ This weekend, Newport County will host several events—participants can join the Sakonnet Coastal Bike & Stroll on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, attend a comedy fundraiser at the VFW Post on Saturday at 5 p.m., and take part in a fort clean-up on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents will also be able to enjoy a harvest festival at Greenvale Vineyards on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and free art and cultural activities at the Newport Art Museum on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The Newport Daily News

The group will send $200,000 immediately to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and will fund $800,000 through its Community Partner Resilience Fund to support food programs in Newport County. - ➤ Rhode Island's largest food drive is in its 38th year and aims to collect over 175,000 pounds of food to support families hit by the government shutdown. - ➤ Two cheer teams from the Middletown Islanders Pop Warner program earned spots at the New England Regional Cheerleading Competition scheduled for November 15 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield after winning first place on October 19 at the Ryan Center at the University of Rhode Island.
