COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Middletown-based Rite-Solutions (after matching $9,650 raised by employees in its Rite Donation campaign) will donate $19,300 to Newport’s MLK Community Center and to Love Thy Neighbor Community Food Pantry in King George, Va., helping both food banks provide essential meals.  What's Up Newp
  • People’s Credit Union donated $50,000 to six local food pantries in the East Bay to help with SNAP benefits concerns—its branches will host a food drive this November with needed items like canned soups, cereals, and rice.  WJAR NBC 10
  • Newport County will host several holiday events this weekend, including the Taste of Portsmouth fundraiser Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Portsmouth Free Public Library, the Candy Cane Bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Middletown, a weekend hot chocolate bar at The Chanler at Cliff Walk, a holiday arts and marketplace at DeBlois Gallery through Dec 23, and a live show with John Wesley Harding Saturday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Greenvale Vineyards (tickets cost $35).  The Newport Daily News

  • Ørsted lost $76.9M on its Revolution Wind project after a federal stop work order in August halted work—this pause cost the company about $2M a day. A judge’s Sept. 22 order let work start again— the wind farm will give power to homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut in the second half of 2026.  What's Up Newp

  • The Newport and Narragansett Bay Railway Company is restoring a 1940s railcar that served as a dining room at a Fall River McDonald's. It will be fixed up and used for lunch excursions in Newport next year — spare parts come from a depot in Chicopee.  WJAR NBC 10
  • John Barry found a hidden sequel to his late father's 1963 children's book in a filing cabinet at his Newport home. Penguin Random House will publish Mr. Willowby’s Head Over Heels Christmas — using Robert Barry’s original sketches to bring the classic tale to life for a new generation.  The Newport Daily News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Aquidneck Island Land Trust reopened a 700-foot boardwalk on the Sakonnet Greenway Trail in memory of Maya L. Auchincloss after replacing its worn structure with more durable materials. The boardwalk is located between Sandy Point Avenue and Bramans Lane — it was primarily funded by her estate.  What's Up Newp
